Why We Invested – Humble Robotics

By Ty Findley, Co-Founder & General Partner

The $1T US trucking industry accounts for nearly 70% of all domestic freight movement, with short-haul regional moves under 250 miles representing 75% of total freight weight. With a massive role is the economy, a healthy trucking industry is vital to a well-functioning supply chain and logistics industry yet today we see this critical sector facing compounding structural pressures: a severe driver shortage requiring more than 1 million new drivers this decade, volatile fuel expenses, shifting supply chain networks and routing, rising equipment costs, and increasingly expensive insurance, among too many other facets to list out. In short-haul trucking specifically, driver labor represents the single largest financial burden, consuming up to 50% of total revenue ($3.34 per mile). Fleet operators at ports, railyards, and distribution hubs face costly facility dwell times, depressed asset utilization, and climbing operational expenses, making highly regimented short-haul, dock to dock logistics a prime target for autonomous transformation vs. the variability and complexity of long haul that often spans multiple states on its journey.

Enter Humble Robotics, a new approach to AV trucking that sits at the intersection of physical AI, vehicle electrification, and autonomy. This fast-growing startup makes fully autonomous, electric haulers designed for the most efficient, cost-effective commercial freight transportation. Humble’s Class 8 vehicles are purpose-built to handle short-haul logistics scenarios, blending vision-language-action (VLA) models and robust, lightweight hardware on a universal platform that supports multiple vehicle configurations. The company is building a vertically integrated shipping platform engineered specifically for short-haul freight. As industrial SMEs at Ironspring Ventures, we’ve seen a similar nexus of physical AI, vehicle electrification, and autonomy already play out with our portfolio company Harbinger Motors which is now scaling its medium duty EV commercial vehicle production alongside winning a recent a $300M FedEx contract to produce more than 2,000 trucks. We’re excited to share those lessons learned, as well as our unique commercial distributor network and freight industry reach, with Humble right out of the dock door!

Developed from the ground up without legacy vehicle constraints, Humble is built around two core components – the “Humble Hauler,” a cabless, fully electric Class 8 tractor-trailer unit with a 200-mile range, smart trailer cargo sensing, and a lightweight chassis that significantly boosts payload capacity. The second component is the “Humble Engine,” an SAE Level 4 autonomy system built on a 4-billion parameter VLA foundation model that enables true dock-to-dock routing within restricted domains. To train its operating system efficiently, Humble utilizes “Humble Habitats,” neural world models that generate photorealistic synthetic video simulations of specific driving corridors. By reimagining the shipping unit itself as an intelligent, self-driving vehicle, Humble allows for continuous asset utilization and delivers a highly scalable solution to a multi-billion-dollar addressable logistics market.

This first of its kind platform was created by an exceptional team of deeply experienced autonomous vehicle and supply chain leaders. Founder and CEO Eyal Cohen previously founded robotics company SparkAI (acquired by John Deere) and served as Head of Hardware Engineering at self–driving tech company Waabi, following impressive engineering roles at Pronto AI, Uber, Otto, and Apple. And Eyal has proven to be a real talent magnet, recruiting Sidd Narang (former Principal Engineer at Waabi and Cruise) as Head of Hardware and Bob Chappuis (former VP of Operations at Uber Freight) as Head of Commercialization, among other stellar leaders with high credibility in this space. This is a dream team that blends technology prowess with domain expertise (something we index on at Ironspring Ventures) to tackle the mission of dramatically lowering the cost of freight for global logistics companies. In fact, this group of standout experts led the effort to design, construct, and track-test their first fully functional cabless prototype in under six months!

Ironspring Ventures is proud to participate in Humble’s $51M Series A round led by Obvious Ventures, alongside Eclipse, Energy Impact Partners (EIP), and other top investors. We’re confident there is no better team to transform short-haul, dock-to-dock logistics through pioneering technology that brings a bold new solution to a specific segment of the logistics value chain that is ripe for modernization. In operating as a tractor, trailer, and driver all in one, Humble is introducing a brand-new operating model to the logistics industry, one that eliminates driver expenses, elevates key industry talent into 1-to-many operational experts, and captures efficiency gains across energy, maintenance, and insurance.

We’re eager to partner with Eyal and the entire Humble crew on the journey ahead and are confident this visionary team will deliver on the promise of transforming the logistics industry through the market’s only true dock to dock electric hauler that is designed for maximum reliability and minimum cost. Onward, Humble!
